Research Interest: Rem EM in 1642 from Holland and first settled in Nieuw Amsterdam, then Fort Orange (Albany) and then in Brooklyn, New York. He was both a farmer and skilful blacksmith. He married Jannetje, the daughter of Joris Jansen de Rapalje. Joris bought a large estate at the Wallabout and had Rem re-settle where the family stayed for over 200 years. He was made an official during the second Dutch administration (Magistrate). At his funeral his 15 children with their wives, husbands and children were present. Sons were Jan, Joris, Rem, Jacob, Jeromus, Daniel, Abraham, Isaac and Jeremias. Daughters took up the names Dorlandt, Vanderbilt, Adriense, VanNostrand, Adriansen; Sons took the name REMSEN (Rem's son).
