Research Interest: James Ragan was born in SC and poossibly lived in TN before he removed to GA. He is found on the 1840 census in GA but not before or after. In 1840 he is living with his wife, Elizabeth Decker Ragan, and children in Talbot Co. GA around Americus and c hildren. In 1850 only Elizabeth is found with children in the GA census. No record of James in the National Archives as being associated with the war with Mexico. Did he leave GA for CA and the Gold Rush Would census records be available for those t hat went to CA seeking their fortune Issue of this Ragan family eventually ended up in TX and MS possibly in AR as well . The son of James and Elizqbeth, Peter Fleming Ragan, was born in 1829 in GA and was my g grandfather. He is buried in the Ragan Cemetery in Rankin Co., MS. He is the oldest known child which means that James and Elizabeth were probably married aroung 1827/28. The Decker family can be found on the census records in TN. The Ragan family was associated with the McGarrah family o f GA as well. Peter Fleming Ragan married Martha McGarrah, my g grandparents on my maternal side.
