Research Interest: Samuel PARKES was born c. 1846 1846-1847 in County Down, Ireland of course, we need to know specifically where and when. He met Mary CAMELY/CAMLEY/CAMBLY sometime before 1864, when they left for Canada. On sailing for Canada, Mary was pregnant wit h their first child, George, born in 1864 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where all the rest of their children were born . Mary's 1885 death certificate says she was born in Dundee, Scotland, and was born there in late 1847 or early 1848. They must have m et somewhere in Ireland, but indications of the CAMELY name including spelling varients seem to indicate that that may have been around Kilkeel, Co. Down, in Ireland. That name including spelling variants does not seem to appear anywhere else in Ire land at the time of this research. There are some clues which might show that Samuel was from around Hilltown, Co. Down, just north of the Mourne Mountains, whereas the coastal town of Kilkeel is south of those same Mourne Mountains. The PARKES nam e does show up on the PRONI Freeholders' Records, which even show a Samuel PARKES, but the dates do not seem to co-incide with the above-researched individual, and nothing more seems to be available such as dates, places no specific data seems to be readily at hand.
