Research Interest: James L. Oakley was born in April 1823 in Virginia, his wife Ann Annie was born in May 1823. They first moved to Rockingham County in 1850,they later moved to Surry County, NC. They had 6 children one being William S. Oakley, born Dec. 26,1852,died Ma r.21, 1912 who is the father of James Monroe Oakley, born 1889, died in Jan. 1946, who is the father of William Rayvon Oakley, born June l, 1917 and died Nov. 15,2003 who was my Dad. Wm. S. Oakley married Sarah Sally Hodges on Sept. 4, 1874. What I would like to know is who came before James L. I have heard of an Ernest Oakley who came from Virginia and settled in Surry County, NC but I don't know if he is a relative or not. I have been working on my Dad's ancestry for a couple of years with no luck. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Gwyn Oakley Lanier
