Research Interests Forum Entry for SERRATO DURANDOMINGUEZ LARA at NEW MEXICO, ARIZONA

Research Interest: My great grandparents, as well as my grandfather came from New Mexico/Arizona. They were Native Americans (Yaqui)that changed their surnames due to discrimination against indians during that period of time. Due to the fact that they were poor little records are available. I would like to establish a link so that I can find some type of direct tribal affiliation. At this point all I know is that my great grandfather changed his name to Serrato/Dominguez prior to 1900. He was born on or near a reservation in Southern New Mexico/Arizona. There I have no birth place for either of my great grandparents. My G-grandmothers maiden name was Lara. I am just starting this search and any help would be greatly appreciated. In addition, my father's mother's maiden name was Duran, we believe she was born in Southern California. Most of the family records were destroyed by my fathers step mother when my father was very young (under 5 years old). Most of the older relatives that could be of assistance on that side of my family have all past on.
