I am trying to find who the parents of James are. This has been very difficult, since there were 3 James Hathorns in South Carolina at the same time. James married a Elizabeth Baird in or around 1807. And shortly after Aug 1813. A group loaded their wago
ns and moved to Preble City, Ohio. They built their church there at Morning Sun, Israel Township. Four Hathorns James, John, David, and Samuel are shown as charter members of the church Hopewell in the book History of Preble County Ohio. The book says th
ey built their church before their cabins. In 1819, after the Indians had settled down, all four Hathorns came to Randolph City, Illinois. John later returned to Ohio. James and the others settled around Evansville, Illinois, but later moved close to Spar
ta at a little settlement called Preston. James took land at the mouth of the Plum creek where it runs into the Kaskaskia River. It was called the Irish Settlement. James was J.P and recorder of deeds at Kaskaskia and was apparently fairly well educated
