Research Interest: I am looking for the parents of Henry H. Downing of Fauquier Co. VA. He was in this county during the late 1700's and early 1800's. One of his daughters, Harriet G., married a Edward Smoot, Jr. and in 1836 migrated to Scotland Co. MO. Harriet's brothe r, William G. Downing, migrated to Marion Co., MO in 1837. Where did Henry H. Downing come from before Fauquier Co, VA? I believe his wife was Airy (Hitch) Downing. Airy's father was Christopher Hitch of Fauquier Co. I do know that the Downing , Hitc h and Smoot families lived close to each other in Fauquier Co and later all three families had branches that migrated to Scotland and Marion Counties in MO--during the 1830's.
