Research Interest: Nancy Dowdy is my great-great-great-great grandmother. (See my entry for Joseph M. Morris.) Born in New Bern, Craven County, NC October 2, 1813; died in Carroll County, TN on September 20, 1878; married Joseph M. Morris, in New Bern, on July 2, 1828. Joseph and Nancy were Welsh Baptists. Nancy travelled with her husband and family to the Roundtop in or near Carroll County, TN. Children in New Bern were: Harvey (or Richard Harvey), 1829; Mary, October 2, 1828, died July 20, 1832; and Martha Ann, 1831. Born in Carroll County, TN: Achah (?) and Mariah, in 1837; Joseph in 1841; Mary in 1841; Eli M. in 1845; George W. in 1848; Josephus Lafayette in 1858 died in 1896; and there may well be others? Joseph is listed in the census for Craven County, NC, having one male age 0-5 (probably Harvey or Richard Harvey), 1 male 30-40 (probably Joseph), 1 female 15-20 (probably Nancy Dowdy), a 1 female 40-50 (person unknown, perhaps Joseph's or Nancy's mother?); where is little Mary? I have found records of Nancy and Joseph Morris, where they were married, transferred land, etc. But I haven't a clue as to their parentage. In the book, "West- ward to the Roundtop," by Arving Edwin Morris, on small clue is given for Joseph's father, he served as a teenager in the militia. If you have anything to share or would like to know about the hundreds of Morris' I have collected data on so far, give me a call or e-mail. I have not searched the Dowdy line at all.
