Research Interest: John DeWitt, born July 1841 in Glenmont, Holmes County, Ohio - according to his own statement on Civil War pension application. First appearance in a record in the 1860 Census in Knox Co. as an apprentice to Mr. Severn a blacksmith. Next records are his military records. From then on I have him located except for a period of time in the 1870s when he apparently went to Bloomfied Iowa according to pension records where he states that his youngest son was born there .His death certificate lists John D eWitt and Mary/Margaret Vandivor as his parents, both born in Ohio. Can find no written record of them. Questions Where are his parents Where did they die Why was John and his wife Mary Ann Hoagland in Iowa all other records show them living in Brinkhaven the rest of their lives. John is buried there, don't know where Mary is buried. Help.
