Research Interest: Willis was born in Staunton and his parents William Coplan and Rachael Varian moved to Ohio by 1824 and Cassopolis, Mi by 1837. They settled in Racine, WI with their 4 daughters Eliza, Martha, Melinda, Phoebe and Willis. Willis married someone and had two children there, and then went to Texas to fight in the Texas- Mexican War where he was involved in the black bean incident. By the time he returned home, his wife had remarried. I would like to know the name of that wife and also more about his par ents. We are at a dead end in our research. It is possible that the last name could be spelled Copeland.
