Research Interest: Sylvia Cleminson was my aunt, and was born at Bushey on 4th April 1901. Her parents were John James Davidge Cleminson and Edith Lucy Cleminson formerly Cross. She was the third of four daughters to that marriage. In 1904 Edith went with Sylvia and her yo unger sister ,my mother Marjorie Elsie Cleminsion to Johannesburg in South Africa to live with John Cleminson who had settled in South Africa. Later that year he sent them to live in Durban. About the middle of 1905, Edith and my mother returned to Engla nd, and I believe were shipwrecked in the Bay of Biscay. In February 1906 my grandparents were divorced, the case being heard in South Africa, with Edith not being present. Nobody in the family has ever been able to find out what became of Sylvia. It is not known whether she also returned to england in 1905 with her mother and sister. The only subsequent evidence is a letter she seems to have written in 1940 at the time of her father's death in 1940 at Bath Somerset in England.
