Research Interest: Robert Shapland Carew, born 1819, Woodenstown, co. Tipperary, married Euphemia Gordon, daughter of the Rev. Thomas Gordon, Clonmel, co. Tipperary. She was born 12 October 1829. He went to Canada ca. 1850 to grant lands for the king of England. He had eight children, all born in Ontario, six daughters and two sons: I. Joseph Thomas Carew, born 2 January 1848, died 11 December 1914 in Cincinnati, Ohio. II. Robert Gordon Carew, born 29 June 1855, died 29 January 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The two sons founded the Mabley & Carew Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Euphemia Gordon Carrew died 21 February 1864 as the result of a house fire. She was buried in St. Catherine's Cemetary, Ontario. Robert Shapland Carew returned to Ireland upon the decease of his father, Joseph, who died in 1873, to take possession of Grangebarry and other lands in co. Tipperary. Joseph Carew was heir to his brother, Robert Carew (the younger, Person ID #477370) of Meadowstown Castle, co. Tipperary, who died a bachelor 20 Octob er 1872. Robert Carew (the younger) had succeeded his father, Robert Carew, the elder, who died in 1806. Robert Shapland Carew died 14 April 1889 and was buried at Mt. Jerome's Cemetary, Dublin. His residence at the time of his death was 2 Brighton Sq uare, Rathgar, Dublin. My research interest is - How is this Robert Shapland Carew of Woodenston, co. Tipperary, related to Robert Shapland Carew of Castleboro, co. Wexford, born 9 March 1787, married 16 November 1816 Jane Catherine Cliffe, daughter of Major Anthony Cliffe of New Ross by his wife Frances, eldest daughter of Col. Joseph Deane of Terenure, M.P. for co. Dublin. He was created a Peer of Ireland as Baron Carew of West Wexford, 13 June 1824 and a Peer of the United Kingdom as Baron Carew of Castleboro, co. Wexford, 9 July 1838. He was Lord-Lieut. of co. Wexford. He died 2 June 1856. Dowager Lady Jane Carew lived out her widowhood at Woodstown House, co. Waterford. She died 12 November 1901, at the age of 103 having lived in three centu ries. Robert Shapland Carew, 1st Baron Carew, was succeeded by his son Robert Shapland Carew, born 28 January 1818, married 16 July 1844 Emily Ann Philips, who died 24 November 1899. Robert Shapland Carew, 2nd Baron Carew, died 9 September 1881 and was succeeded by his son Robert Shapland George Julian, 3rd Baron Carew, born 15 June 1860. He died without issue 29 April 1923 and was succeeded by his brother, George Patrick John Carew, 4th Baron Carew, born 1 February 1863. He died without issue 21 Ap ril 1926 and was succeeded by his cousin, Gerald Shapland Carew, 5th Baron Carew, born 26 April 1860. He married 21 April 1904 Catherine Conolly, only daughter of Thomas Conolly, M.P. of Castletown. He was succeeded by his son William Francis Conolly C arew, 6th and present Baron Carew, in 1927.
