Research Interest: Sampson BETHARD arrived in Spring Bay Settlement, Illinois about 1823 with his brothers, Elza (Elzy) and Handy. They might have come from Maryland. Elza and Handy died. Sampson married Mary E. DELONG on April 10, 1834 in Washington Township, Tazewell Co.,Illinois. Mary was the daughter of William DELONG and Sophorina CABLE. Sampson and Mary had the following children: Rebecca (1835)in Springfield, IL; James (1836-1839); Mary Elizabeth (Aug. 4, 1840); and Francis Marion (July 29, 1844) in Missouri. Sampson died Jan. 27, 1846 in Acthison Co., Missouri and Mary headed (or continued?) to California with her young family. Mary died en route somewhere between 1846 and the children's arrival in California (with her sister & her family) in 1854. I am tracing the line of Sampson (1), Francis Marion (2), Augustus (3), Melvin (4), and Marjorie (5)--my mother. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Many, MANY thanks!
