Research Interest: James Margaret Currie Beck, parents of John and William James Beck 1886-1958 James was b. c 1835. Don't know the death date. He was a boot shoemaker in Dumfries, Scotland. Margaret Currie was b. c 1844 in Kirkbean, Kirkcudbright Scotland. Ja mes Margaret were m. 31 May 1883. James had a 1st m. to Margaret Smith in 1861. They had two boys, Alexander and James Beck and one daughter, Jane. Jane did not appear in the 1871 census so I have presently assumed she died young. Margaret Smit h did not appear in the 1871 census so I have assumed that she died also. James listed himself as a widower in the Census 1871. I am trying to trace the family back to the next generation but have not had enough time to do all the research needed as yet. I have perused the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census of Dumfries Scotland for nearly all the above info. Is anyone else researching this line of the family William James Beck 1886 - 1958 immigrated to Canada in 1910 and I, being his daughter hav e some info on him. I have also info on his half brother Alexander Beck 1862 - 1937 who immigrated to the U.S. in 1886 and eventually lived in Indianapolis. I do not know the whereabouts of James John Beck. Would be very interested though. Tha nks to anyone who can help
