Research Interest: George Bartlett was in the Royal Marine Artillery, and a Chelsea Pensioner in England. In 1852 he applied to come to New Zealand to help protect Auckland during the Maori Wars, as a Royal NZ Fencible. He was married and had one child before leaving Engla nd, a daughter was born during the voyage to NZ and he and his wife had three more children. He died in 1860 in New Zealnd but nothing else is known prior to him coming here.
