Research Interest: John Bolton Armstrong was born in 1884 in Salford, and the family later moved into Liverpool. He married Annie Gorry and had 3 sons - John Edward, William and Joseph Colin. He worked as a Ship's Steward and was torpedoed off the Azores in 1942 aboard the Avila Star, and his body was never found. I am looking for information on his parents, John Edward Armstrong and Agnes Story Armstrong and both their sets of Armstrong antecedents. John Edward's line seem to go back to Carlisle through his father Thomas and grandfather Hugh, and Agnes' are still a mystery, although her mother Agnes Bland came from Orton, Westmorland. Any information would be most welcome.
